Caring for Oily Skin

Caring for Oily Skin

by Adem Martin del Campo

Oily skin is a common occurrence with a lot of people. One of the most common cliché's in the older movies said by women is "excuse me so I can powder my nose". Oily skin is not a problem. The oil produced by the body is there to protect your skin and moisturize it. It keeps your skin from dehydrating, like when you cover food in the refrigerator. The ideal situation is to have just enough oil on your skin without looking too shiny. Many people think it is due to eating too many foods that are high in fat. This is only part of the cause. Now let's take a look at the other major cause of oily skin.

For most the solution to oily skin is to strip it off, using alcohol or other harsh products. This is the worst thing you can do to your skin. Like I mentioned earlier the oil is there to protect. When it is stripped away you are actually causing your body to produce more oil. This is also the cause of "T Zone" skin. If you notice that you have areas of your face that are generally shinier than others, you need to make sure that you keep a good moisturizer on those areas especially. I know what you are thinking, "I am already shiny. Why would I want to add more shine with a moisturizer?" Well the reason is to balance out your skin. Let's see how we can achieve this.

The most important thing is to use something gentle to cleanse your skin like our Moisture Cream Cleanser. Since it is a cream cleanser it will remove your make-up, cleanse your skin and leave it soft and moisturized. If you are currently using soap, or alcohol, please stop, you are only making it harder on yourself. Even the so called "acne treatments" or "acne cleansers" do more harm than good, because they simply strip the skin of all of its protection with harsh detergents. I know I used to follow that route, until I learned the proper way to care for my skin. Also another thing I often see is people using a tissue to remove the oil on their skin when they are away from home. This has the same effect as using soap. Use a large brush like our Complexion Brush to even out your make-up or spread the oils all over your skin. This is another step that will aid you in getting healthy balanced skin.

After cleansing with our Moisture Cream Cleanser, use our Moisture Tone Freshener. This light liquid is used to remove any residue left on the skin, and it evens the pH of your skin to accept the moisturizer easier. It has other benefits too. Since it is alcohol free it can be used to soothe minor burns or irritations like razor burn. Many of the astringents on the market today have alcohol as the first ingredient. This makes them better to use to disinfect small cuts and abrasions than to clean your face with.

The next step to healthy skin is the moisturizer. You should be using two different types of moisturizer to keep your skin healthy. The first is our Moisture Magic Lotion. This lotion is light enough to wear under your make-up this way it will soften your skin all day long. The other type is our Moisture Glow White. This moisturizer is great for use at night while you sleep. These moisturizers will normalize your skin and balance the amount of oil your body needs to produce.

Oily skin can be favorable. It is like the old saying that everything is good in moderation, except in the case of shopping. Well that's my personal saying. I hope this will help all of you out there understand these simple steps to achieving skin you can be proud of.

The Best Way to Care for "Skin Problems"

by Adem Martin del Campo

Problems with your skin are frustrating for everyone. No matter what age you are it is tough to deal with. I myself had problems with my skin as a teenager, so I would like to share with you all that I have learned about treating and eliminating skin problems.

There are a number of different conditions we deem as "Problems". The ones that come to mind first are pimples and blackheads. Others that people never really think about as a problem are sensitive skin, oily skin and even wrinkles.

I would like to start with something that I receive questions about all the time, which is "Adult Acne". So many people are affected by this and do not know why. As a teenager they never had problems. Why now? In this case a lot of people are constantly on the go. As teenagers a lot of us were very self conscious about our appearance, so we did everything we could to stay looking our best. As our lives changed, we have a career, maybe children and seldom do we leave any time for ourselves. In this time we start to pick up bad habits when it comes to our skin. This is why it is very important to take the time to care for your skin. As a doctor will tell you it is the largest organ of the body, so why do we tend to neglect it?

It is important that everyone use a cleanser, toner and moisturizer to start with. Use a cleanser that will not dry your skin to clean it. Dry skin is the leading cause of breakouts because the dead skin clogs your pores trapping the oil in your skin. An example of this is SOAP. Please do not use soap to clean your face or your body. Try using a bar of soap to clean your hair. You would not think of it. Well our hair and skin are made from the same proteins, and what that soap does to your hair it does to your skin too. Using a cleanser like our Moisture Cream Cleanser will clean your skin and leave it feeling soft. If the product you are currently using leaves your skin squeaky clean, it is probably too harsh to use. The detergents or cleansing agents are stripping all the natural oils from your skin leaving it unprotected. It is like leaving left over food in the fridge without covering it. Follow up with a toner. Make sure it does not contain alcohol. (Note: Most astringents contain alcohol!) Alcohol should be used to clean and disinfect cuts, not clean your face. This is really important for a person with sensitive skin. That is why we made our Moisture Tone Freshener without alcohol. It is safe for use with all skin types. Next you will need a moisturizer. There are several reasons for this. By keeping your skin moisturized you will help prevent dead flaky skin from accumulating on your face causing breakouts. As I mentioned earlier it also helps prevent wrinkles, because it maintains the natural elasticity of the skin. Another benefit of using a good moisturizer is for protection. A moisturizer will work with your natural oils to prevent your skin from dehydrating, which is what happens when you have dry skin.

The next two products are very helpful in preventing and eliminating acne. First, before you apply your moisturizer use a facial scrub to get rid of any dead skin you may have. Again remember to use something gentle like our Honey Almond Scrub. Your skin is delicate; so do not use something that feels like you are getting a dermabrasion every time you use it. This will also help prevent and eliminate wrinkles too. Because you are exfoliating your skin you are allowing new skin to be produced, and further increasing your skin's elasticity.

Now that I have shown you how to help your skin, let's talk about what you should not do. The first thing most people think about doing when they see a pimple is POP IT. The problem this causes is that sure you may see some of the infection come out, but what you do not see is that the lower portion of the pimple is actually being pushed further in to your skin. This is why it seems that acne is never ending. Use a warm washcloth to open the pores of your skin and follow the steps previously mentioned to clean your skin. I know from my own experiences that it is hard to look at that pimple, yet by properly caring for it you reduce the chance of it reforming. The same thing holds true for blackheads. Next stay away from "Acne creams". This is like throwing fuel on the fire. All they do is dry your skin causing more breakouts later.

Everyone should be able to have great skin. By using the techniques and products I have mentioned to you, I am sure you will receive positive results.

Caring for Aging Skin

by Adem Martin del Campo

This month I would like to share with you some techniques that will help you combat the aging process. I know we have a lot of young readers that may think this tip will not be helpful to them, yet by using these techniques, you will prevent the need for drastic measures in your future. If you are a mother with a daughter, be sure to pass on this information to them so that they may keep their youthful appearance for as long as possible.

As we age, our skin begins to lose its elasticity, causing unwanted wrinkles to form. This is a good reason to start using a high quality skin care line like Armando's Skin Care. The key to elasticity is moisture in the skin so you need to find something that will clean your skin and will leave it feeling soft and moisturized. An example of this is if you have ever known a person that insisted on using soap to clean their skin, you should have noticed that their skin does not move much and over time will tend to have a gray hue to it. This is where our Moisture Crème Cleanser will help you. It is a crème-based formula that will give you deep pore cleansing and leave your skin with the feeling of softness.

Now that your skin is clean, use our Honey & Almond Scrub to exfoliate the dead, dry skin that prevents you from having a "youthful glow". It uses finely crushed almond shells as the exfoliating agent, so you will be assured that you are not using a product with a harsh synthetic abrasive. The Honey & Almond Scrub should only be used once a week, so it will last you a very long time. After using the Honey & Almond Scrub, apply the Honey Mint Mask. The Honey Mint Mask uses mint to stimulate your skin. With the increase in circulation, vital oxygen will nourish your skin and will further combat the aging process. Like the Honey & Almond Scrub, only use the Honey Mint Mask once a week.

The next line of defense is our Moisture Tone Freshener. This is a very versatile that is used after the Cleanser or Honey Mint Mask to better prepare your skin to accept the moisturizer. The other benefit of this product is to soothe minor sunburns and razor burn on any part of the body. Our Moisture Tone Freshener can be used by all skin types (i.e. sensitive, oily, combination or dry) because it made without any alcohol.

There are three moisturizers in Armando's Skin Care line. First, we have the Moisture Magic Lotion. This lotion absorbs quickly so you can use it under our Custom-blended Foundation to moisturize your skin all day long. Our Moisture Magic Lotion is the Special of the Month for June 2001, so you can purchase it at 50% off the retail price.

Next we have our Moisture Glow White, which is one of our best products to aid against and aging look. It contains collagen and elastins. Collagen is a natural protein found in your skin that keeps you looking young. Elastins, as the name implies, increases the elasticity of your skin. Our Moisture Glow White can be used as a night cream or as a daily moisturizer. Now we come to the Moisture Glow Pink. It is rich in moisturizing ingredients to soften and hydrate your skin. It is highly recommended for people with dry skin or people that live in a dry climate. Our last line of defense is our Eye & Throat Oil. This fine, delicate oil is so light that it can be used underneath our custom-blended foundation instead of heavy eye creams to give the fragile skin under your eyes the extra moisture it requires. The Eye & Throat Oil can also be used at night to soften any lines or wrinkles while you sleep and lessen their appearance.

Many people nowadays eat well and exercise to make their bodies healthier, yet they do nothing to help their skin. This is odd since your skin is the largest organ of your body, and often it receives the most abuse. With the ideas we have given you along with Armando's Skin Care Line, you will be able to keep your skin healthy and fit like exercise does for your muscles.

Smoother Skin on Your Body

by Adem Martin del Campo

This month, our question comes from Lindsay T. asking about achieving smoother skin on the rest of the body.

You would never think about using a bar of soap on your face, would you? So why use it on your body?

Soap dries out skin. So how do we achieve softer on our bodies? Start by using a high-quality body wash instead of soap (even shampoo works great) with a large loofah. The body wash is much more gentle than soap (and still cleans way dirt) and the loofah sloughs off any dead skin. Dead, flaky skin is a common culprit of ingrown hairs!

Now here is the really important part! Make sure after your shower to use a high-quality body lotion to help keep your skin from drying out! While great skin starts from the inside (like making sure to drink plenty of water every day), it is equally important to protect it on the outside. Armando has put his Hand & Body Lotion on special this month to give you a "jump start" on softer skin for the rest of your body. Armando's Hand & Body Lotion was developed with a non-greasy, quick absorbing formula to make caring for all of your skin quick and simple!

Steps to Healthy Skin

by Adem Martin del Campo

I have been receiving a lot of questions in regards to Skin Care, specifically "Dry Skin". Being a native of Las Vegas, Nevada I have heard these questions a lot. Moist Skin is the key to a youthful appearance, yet many people I speak with continue to use soap on their skin. Soap has it's purpose in our lives, yet it should NOT be used to clean your skin. Another bad habit we sometimes pick up is to use alcohol to get rid of the oil on our faces. If we were acne prone as teen-agers, we thought oil was our enemy. This is a common misconception. The oil our bodies produce is there to prevent it from dehydrating. An example of this is when you leave bread open to the air it gets hard and dry. The same thing happens to the skin. By using soap or alcohol all that is doing is making our body produce more oil, because we are stripping it off. The key then is to work with what we have. By keeping our skin moisturized this balances the oil producing process, so our body will only produce what we truly need. Another problem with these drying agents is it also creates that dry flaky skin usually common around the nose, around the hairline and on our cheeks. This dry skin is actually what causes pimples and blackheads. The oil in our body has no where to go because the pore is covered with crust then it gets infected and causes a breakout, so using an exfoliating product that is not harsh is useful to keep the pores from clogging.

Considering our skin covers our whole body we cannot forget about the other body parts. Again what was mentioned before about soap holds true for the rest of the body. Bar soaps usually contain waxes and polymers (plastics) to make the soap hold its form. These things also promote dry skin. An alternative is to use your shampoo. The hair, skin and nails are made from the same protein called Keratin that is why shampoo is better for your body, yet still too harsh for your face. To see what I mean about the shampoo, have you ever shampooed your hair with a bar of soap? You wouldn't think of it. The same thing that bar of soap does to your hair it is doing to your skin.

Always start with washing your face with a warm wash cloth. This will help open the pores. Then use our Moisture Cream Cleanser. Apply it with a little water to help it emulsify. Remove it with your warm wash cloth. This will cleanse the pores and moisturize it since it is a cream based formula. When used at night it is the perfect product to remove your make-up. Next use our Honey Almond Scrub to exfoliate any dry, flaky skin to unclog pores and get rid of blackheads. Apply it with warm water, and remove with your wash cloth. The next step will differ from person to person. If you tend to have oily skin you will want to use our Honey Mint Mask. This will start to normalize your skin. Apply it with warm water and let it stand for a few minutes. Remove it with your wash cloth. The next step for all skin types is to use our Moisture Tone Freshener. This product is applied with cotton to remove any residue you may have left behind after using the wash cloth it contains no alcohol and it balances the pH of the skin to accept the moisturizer easier. If this procedure is being done to start your day then use the Moisture Magic Lotion for day use. If this is being done before you go to sleep then you should use our Moisture Glow White, which is a light night cream or our Moisture Glow Pink for people who would like a little more moisture.
